Install on Ubuntu / Zorin OS through APT

Set up the signed CH-J APT repository on Ubuntu 24.04 amd64 and install CH-J Tools (package ch-j-tools) from the Beta channel.

What you need

Ubuntu 24.04 amd64, sudo privileges, curl, GnuPG and access to the official APT repository.

Procedure

  1. Download the public repository key. Check the primary fingerprint 0D92 778A D8EC F85C 80E3 9248 48F2 433A D9CD F453 against an independently trusted copy before installing it.
  2. Install the key under /etc/apt/keyrings and create /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ch-j.sources using the example. Signed-By limits this key to the repository.
  3. sudo apt update && sudo apt install ch-j-tools
  4. If you have the earlier ch-j-server-manager package installed from the repository, change the Suites line in ch-j.sources to beta and run the same command. The ch-j-tools package replaces the old package and moves application data on first launch.
  5. Use APT for later repository updates. Do not run the separate application installer during an APT transaction.

Limitations and checking results

The ch-j-tools package is in the beta channel for amd64. The alpha channel still contains the older ch-j-server-manager 0.1.1 package. Compatibility with every Debian version or other architectures is not guaranteed.

Do not use apt-key, disable signature checking or trust the key globally. License consent takes place in the application; website downloads begin directly.

The Linux version uses a DEB package. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is the primary test platform; the author has also tested both Alpha and Beta on Zorin OS.

Alpha and Beta development builds are available. Before using them on important systems, review the limitations of individual features and prepare backups.
